Fall Speaker Series: Woman in Motion

Fall Speaker Series: Woman in Motion: The Life and Art of Bettina Somers

Join the Westbank Museum for their Fall Speaker Series. This week’s speaker is Petra Höller, Curator of the Summerland Museum.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Petra will be sharing the story of Okanagan Artist, Bettina Somers (1904-1989). Bettina was an artist who lived in Summerland, BC during the latter part of her life. Her artwork is held in the collections of the Summerland Community Arts Council and the Penticton Art Gallery. Though she lived out her final years in quiet Summerland, her life beforehand was anything but ordinary. Join us to discover the fascinating, globe-trotting life of this artist, including time spent as a spy during WWII, her family’s involvement in Egyptology, and even her achievements in the Olympics!

Petra Höller is the Curator at the Summerland Museum & Archives where she has worked for over five years. A graduate of the Visual Arts/Art History program at Concordia University (Montréal), Petra enjoys getting the opportunity to spread awareness about the Okanagan’s historic women artists.

Doors open at 6:00 PM; Presentation begins at 6:30 PM.

Space is limited. RSVP by calling 2507680110 or emailing info@westbankmuseum.com.
