West Kelowna Hiking & Biking
Activities & Locations
Hiking
West Kelowna makes it easy to get out into nature without travelling deep into the backcountry. Ponderosa pine forests, volcanic hillsides and creek canyons create a varied landscape, with trails for everything from a gentle outing to more challenging climbs.
Explore trails through protected parks, municipal networks and regional conservation areas. Follow gentle routes along the shoreline, explore the creek canyons at Glen Canyon Regional Park, or the hillsides of Kalamoir Regional Park. For a bigger challenge, climb Mt Boucherie, an extinct volcano or go to the top of Goats Peak Regional Park. Both have panoramic views across Okanagan Lake.
Strolls & Easy Walks
You don\’t need to take a mountain to enjoy the outdoors in West Kelowna. Take a leisurely stroll through the Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park, follow the paths at Shannon Lake Regional Park or explore the Rotary Trails.
These short, mostly flat routes make it easy for families with young children, visitors with strollers and people who use wheelchairs to enjoy time outdoors. Pack a picnic, take a slow walk, watch for birds or simply enjoy the scenery at your own pace.
Mountain Biking
West Kelowna stands out as a prime Okanagan mountain biking destination, largely due to convenience and trail variety. Major trailheads sit just minutes from downtown and local accommodations, allowing riders to spend less time travelling and more time on the dirt.
The surrounding terrain caters to multiple riding styles. Network trails feature technical climbs, fast singletrack, cross-country loops, and dedicated jump lines. Areas such as Smith Creek provide well-maintained networks built on hillside terrain, offering a mix of flow trails and rocky descents. Local bike shops serve as community hubs, offering trail maps, gear, and weekly group rides for those looking to explore the network alongside local riders.
Trail Advisory: Some local trails may be temporarily closed for ongoing maintenance and environmental mitigation. Please respect all posted barriers, signs, and trail closures, particularly when visiting Rose Valley Regional Park and Kalamoir Regional Park.
